Inferringthe CAttle demographic and adaptive Histories in West-Africa from individual whole genome sequences

The CAHWA project aims at providing a better understanding of the demographic and adaptive histories of four West-African cattle breeds, i.e. three African taurine breeds (N’Dama, Somba and Lagune) and one African taurine x zebu breed (Kuri). A total of 84 genomic bovine DNA samples, already available and characterized using SNP chips, will be sequenced on a HiSeq 2000 (Illumina Inc) at coverage of 15-20X. These whole genome sequences will be used to perform demographic inference and to identify genetic variants involved in cattle adaptation to tropical conditions.
